War Diaries

War Diaries

Fife Cultural Trust is transcribing several war diaries, including the diary of a prisoner of war.

It was not, strictly speaking, against military law to keep a diary but men were not supposed to have material on them that would be useful to the enemy. So most diaries are limited to the briefest of detail about the day, still they give an impression of what life was like.

Diaries written by men who did not return have a particular poignancy.
